Red Light Therapy
The Healing Power of Red Light Therapy for Pets
As loving pet parents, we’re always searching for safe, non-invasive ways to help our animals live longer, happier, and healthier lives. Whether the goal is to ease chronic pain, speed recovery, or simply support vitality, red light therapy has quickly become one of the most exciting new options in veterinary wellness.

At Halo Pet Spa, we use this gentle, evidence-based therapy to help both pets and their owners experience real results — from reduced inflammation to enhanced mobility and faster healing.
What Is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses low-level wavelengths of visible red and near-infrared light to stimulate healing deep within the body.

The light penetrates the skin to reach the mitochondria, the “power plants” of our cells. When stimulated by red and near-infrared light, mitochondria produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate) — the energy that drives every biological function.

This natural boost in cellular energy helps reduce inflammation, accelerate tissue repair, and promote overall vitality in both animals and humans.

The Two Key Light Wavelengths
-
Red Light (600–700 nm):
Works on surface tissues to soothe skin, stimulate collagen, and promote faster recovery from wounds, rashes, or irritations. -
Near-Infrared Light (700–1000 nm):
Reaches deeper into muscles, joints, and bones, where it helps ease stiffness, arthritis, and inflammation — naturally improving comfort and mobility.

Proven Benefits for Pets
Red light therapy is backed by growing scientific research showing measurable improvements across a wide range of conditions in animals.

• Reduces Inflammation and Pain
By stimulating anti-inflammatory proteins and cytokines, red light therapy can help relieve joint pain, arthritis, and discomfort related to cancer treatments — all without drugs or side effects.
• Accelerates Wound Healing
Enhanced cellular energy and blood flow promote faster recovery from surgeries, burns, and injuries while lowering the risk of infection and scarring.
• Improves Mobility and Comfort
Dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, or age-related stiffness often experience a visible improvement in range of motion, balance, and energy after several sessions.
• Supports Skin and Coat Health
Improved circulation and cellular repair soothe dermatitis, allergies, and hot spots — while encouraging healthy, shiny fur growth.
• Aids Post-Surgical Recovery
By reducing swelling and pain, red light therapy helps pets recover faster and more comfortably — often allowing lower reliance on pain medications.

Supported by Science
Veterinary research continues to confirm what pet owners see firsthand: this gentle light truly helps.
-
Studies published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association show red light therapy can reduce pain and improve mobility in dogs with osteoarthritis.
-
Other studies confirm it accelerates wound healing and tissue regeneration after surgery or trauma.
-
A 2018 review of photobiomodulation in animals found that light therapy promotes muscle repair, reduces inflammation, and supports recovery from injury or illness — all without side effects.

Safe, Gentle, and Natural
Red light therapy is completely non-invasive and drug-free. Sessions are calm and soothing — many pets even fall asleep during treatment.

At Halo Pet Spa, red light therapy is often paired with PEMF and Far-Infrared (FIR) treatments to enhance circulation, energy flow, and whole-body rejuvenation for both pets and their people.
